Two Generations

From one stall to a supply chain

In 1986, Thomas Liu founded Kingo in Taipei; in 2016, George Liu founded Frutacloud in Shanghai; in 2020, Catherine Liu founded 3a.m in Taiwan. Forty years and two generations — from fruit trading and supply chain services to connecting origins, channels and consumers — it has always been the same pursuit: bringing better food from around the world into everyday life, making the world tastier and healthier, and letting every good thing be shared by more people.

Taipei: the first stall

In 1986, Thomas Liu founded Kingo Trading Co. in central Taipei. Imported fruit was still a niche trade in Taiwan back then; Kingo started from a single stall in the wholesale market and earned its footing through uncompromising quality and sharp market judgment.

A wholesale market is an honest place: the price tells you whether the fruit is good, and everyone knows who can be trusted. Kingo's first asset was not a warehouse or a fleet — it was credibility earned on the market floor. Today the group's longest supplier partnership exceeds 30 years, and that trust began at that first stall.

Across the strait

In 2001, Kingo expanded into Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Shanghai in a single year, carrying the same way of doing business into much bigger markets: honest goods, honest prices, long-term relationships.

Over the following two decades the portfolio grew beyond 45 categories and the sourcing network reached South America, Africa, Oceania and Southeast Asia — with more than 200 supplier partnerships built along the way.

The second generation

Kingo had joined Tmall and Alibaba's traceability program as early as 2015, testing the waters of digital retail. Then in 2016, Thomas's son George Liu founded Frutacloud in Shanghai — China's retail landscape was transforming fast, with e-commerce, new retail and membership clubs on the rise. The way fruit was sold had changed, and the supply chain had to change with it.

Frutacloud is Kingo's horizontal extension: built on forty years of import expertise and supplier relationships, it serves new retail with a modern supply chain — 17 processing centers, standardized grading and packing, unbroken cold chain. One generation laid the upstream foundation; the next built the downstream network.

Three in the morning: 3a.m

In 2020, Catherine Liu — the family's second generation — founded 3a.m, a Taiwanese premium fruit gift-box brand. Three in the morning is when a fruit wholesale market comes to life — the brand takes its name from that hour, bringing the family's two generations of pre-dawn fruit-picking judgment to the boutique gifting and e-commerce market.

From bespoke gift boxes to seasonal editions, 3a.m turns great fruit into a way of expressing care — carrying Kingo's craft into everyday consumer life in a new form.

Rooted in Jiaxing, on to Southeast Asia

In 2022, Kingo Jiaxing opened to deepen the wholesale and distribution network in East China. In 2023 the group took a bigger step: the Southeast Asia division and KINGO Thailand were established, building Thai durian into a core strategic category — overseeing orchards, packhouses and export on the ground.

The overseas map now joins up: branches in Chile, Peru and South Africa reach deep into the southern hemisphere's key growing regions, while teams in Thailand and Vietnam hold the tropical origins of Southeast Asia — wherever fruit matters, Kingo people are on site.

Forty years on

In 2026, Kingo Group celebrates its 40th anniversary. From one stall in Taipei to a fresh fruit supply chain group spanning Greater China and Southeast Asia: six wholesale stalls, 17 processing centers, a team of 300+ and more than 200 global suppliers.

The relay between generations continues — wholesale and retail, import and domestic, experience and data. "Making the world tastier and healthier" is what this family business intends to keep doing, decade after decade.
